Optical elements. Passive Q-Switches.
Range of sciences is interested in large interest lasers emanating powerful short impulses with duration about 10-9 sec and less. Most simply the problem of generation of such impulses is decided by use of resonant tanks with a controlled quality-factor. Optical-mechanical, electric and magnetooptical Q-Swithes are used to control a quality-factor. Such Q-switches are based on rotation of one of reflectors of the optical resonant tank and on use of the Kerr, the Pockels, the Faraday effects.
Among numerous methods of quality-factor control of the optical resonant tank special interest represents a method, based on the use of passive Q-Switches which transparency varies under an operation of a thermal radiation. Passive Q-Switches application considerably simplifies a construction of the laser as disappears necessity for use of controlling and synchronizing systems.
